To tie in with our campfire theme for 2014, I have a short story to share. Last summer I went camping and was blessed with good company, gorgeous vegetation covers, and a lot of sun. The scenery was absolutely fantastic but only embellished the real gem of my time there. I was accompanied by a mix of individuals with interests in different subjects – water skiing versus sunbathing, country beats versus blues tunes, experimental physics versus theoretical – but we were united by the warm pull of a pinewood fireplace. We were a group of youth open-minded enough to accept each other’s varying tastes, and in this sense, we were privileged. In keeping our eyes and ears open we realized that we were more similar to each other than we had originally thought, which rewarded us with strengthened relationships that are strong to this day.
